 Suicide Tourism

John M Grohol PsyD :

As you may have heard, an American traveled to Switzerland two years ago and enjoyed the Swiss’ openness to assisted suicide. After paying a nonprofit the 10,000 Swiss francs (about $8,300), Craig Ewert drank a glass of water laced with sodium pentobarbital and died within 30 minutes. Under Swiss law he had a right to kill himself. The reason this is new news is that British television just showed the suicide on one of their networks in the past week. He left a note for his gravesite:

Stranger,

Beneath this cone, in unconsecrated ground,

A friend to the liberties of mankind directed

His body to be inured.

May the example contribute to emancipate thy

Mind from the idle fears of Superstition

And the wicked arts of Priesthood.

In America, we too often value quantity over quality. Give me more, more, more!! But some people do value quality.
Would love travel reports.

"Men died calmly before the Christian era, and since, without Christianity."
-Byron(1820)

Greek poets said that in the golden age -- men died and passed away as if mastered by Sleep.

Tell monseigneur I am going to seek the great Perhaps
Draw the curtain, the farce is over.

Nothing of him that doth fade

But doth suffer a sea-change

into something rich and strange.

Listen

When I am dead

take me back to the beach

Raise the black sails

Whistle for a wind

Lash mourners to the masts

Bid the sailors row

We will sing as we go

W/lewd & lawless sea-chants

split the billow

So I can't ...I can't say I regret it...If I
had to do it over again, I think I would have ...a...a gone more
for the ...a...quiet...a...
undemonstrative little artist plodding
away in his own garden trip.
